Hello, I’m Kat!
Hello and welcome. I’m Kat, the founder of Unity Folkestone. With over 16 years of yoga practice, it’s been a powerful tool in navigating my toughest mental health battles.
My yoga journey began in my late teens after being discharged from a mental health ward. I was encouraged to try yoga for my anxiety and body image issues. Initially, I wasn’t interested, but after that first class, some kind of alchemy happened inside of me. It was the first time I could focus on something other than the constant critical voices in my head.
in 2022, my marriage ended and I hit another low point. Despite maintaining a daily yoga practice, the voices in my head were loud again. So, I decided to embark on a yoga teacher training program. Teaching wasn’t my initial goal; I just wanted a better relationship with myself and my body. But the compassion, understanding, and inspiration from my two yoga teachers, David Michael and Amie Evans, alongside an amazingly supportive cohort of fellow students changed something within me.
As the training progressed, I realised how yoga helped me grow a relationship with my body in a safe and trusted space. I thought, surely there must be others like me! And that’s how Unity Yoga Folkestone was created.
Alongside my FT job, I now teach small, intimate classes here in Folkestone on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Unity Yoga Folkestone aims to make yoga accessible to everyone, especially womxn who don’t always feel safe in the average yoga class. We strive to help people create unity with their bodies while being in community with others. Connection is fundamental in every class, and I always theme the sessions on what is happening astrologically and with the lunar cycles. This helps us to connect with ourselves, each other, nature, and the wider universe.
I mostly teach hatha yoga, with a sprinkling of vinyasa, yin, meditation, and breathwork. Expect laughter, big emotions, and never taking ourselves too seriously. If this resonates with you, Unity Yoga might be the right fit. Comment, DM, or stop me in town with any questions.
